Hundreds of anonymous reports – because they are afraid of punishment – have been made by members of our armed forces saying that Secretary Hegseth is promoting this Iran War as a Christian Crusade that will bring about the return of Jesus and the end of the world as we know it. Like the theocracy in Iran, our military is being turned into a veritable End times Army that is doing “God’s” work as we try to end of what is an admittedly evil regime. This isn’t new – many of us have been warning about this perversion of Christianity for decades. The disastrous theology that thrives on death and destruction, praying for the end to come so the true believers can meet Jesus in the air and be part of the 144.000 men who have not defiled themselves with women (Revelation 14) and are the only true saints. Hegseth’s heretical pastor, Doug Wilson, is part of this Doomsday Cult – just another version of a movement bent on destruction, not redemption.
They are no different than the heretical and false form of Islam that has held sway in Iran for over 45 years. They are no different than the murderous cult led by Jim Jones in Guyana in the 1970’s. They are no different than the Heaven’s Gate members who committed mass suicide in 1997, believing God would take them to heaven. These cults have existed for centuries, but instead of being obscure pockets of mania, they are infiltrating our armed forces and being accepted by the present administration. Don’t believe me? The aforementioned Doug Wilson led worship in the Pentagon two weeks ago, and has established a Washington D.C. branch of his Moscow, Idaho church. He also believes women shouldn’t vote and America should run on the laws of the Bible, not the Constitution.
I believe that religion should be life-giving, not murder affirming. I believe that faith should be an individual’s choice, not forced down people’s throats. I believe that women and men are equal in the eyes of God. These Doomsday Cults do not believe any of those things, and as long as we allow their adherents to control aspects of our government, we are all in real danger. The armed forces should serve and protect the Constitution, not a perverse religious worldview. We are all in real danger here. Doomsday Cults want everyone else to die. No exceptions – and no kidding.
Prayer – Holy God, save us from the monsters who would misuse Your name to control and destroy the world. Amen.
