When the conversation about Jeffrey Epstein reemerged, I wrote, “Who could have known that a deviant pedophile rapist would finally bring Americans together?” I had hoped that our moral outrage would have coalesced around issues of poverty or hunger or war, but no – the opinions about these issues (and many more) are vast and varied and confusing. Epstein’s depravity, however, has brought the vast majority of us together, proving that, in fact, people of varying belief systems can find moral clarity. Even some of the most ardent MAGA voices, like Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, have been steadfast in their resolve to release the list of those who participated in Epstein’s sickness. Good for them; good for America.
These crimes that were committed against children are unforgiveable, and those who were involved should be brought to justice and locked away. No person with a shred of morality should oppose releasing this information, and if they do, it seems to me that they have something to hide. And I don’t mean that everyone who went to his island is guilty; it is possible that there are people who attended parties there and did not participate in this depravity. What I mean is that any person who participated or knew what was happening is guilty of rape and should go to prison. It doesn’t matter who they are or what party they belong to. Lock them up.
Maybe this is the start of a new sense of unity in our country. Maybe this will make us begin to think about all the issues that plague children in America. Maybe we can build on this moral divide and remind ourselves that we don’t have to practice the same religion or vote the same way to be united against evil. Because – and I can’t be any clearer – Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell and all of their associates who participated in this debauchery are evil. There are no excuses or reasons or exceptions. Lock them up and throw away the key.
Prayer – Holy God, it shouldn’t take a lot of effort to condemn those who abuse children, but for some, it does. Have mercy on us if we allow that to go unchecked. Amen.
