I had no idea who Nancy Mace is – a Republican congresswoman from S. Carolina – until I saw a bunch of articles and conversations about her tattoos. She has a lot of them and says that more are coming. I don’t care. And while I had heard of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, I didn’t know that she wants to freeze her eggs and is – maybe – going through fertility treatments. I hope she does whatever makes her happy, but honestly – I don’t care about that either. And Lindsey Graham’s sexual orientation? J.D. Vance’s religion? As long as it doesn’t negatively affect their job, I don’t care about those things either. What I care about is that they do their job serving the needs of the American people. Marjorie Taylor Greene has some weird sexual proclivities, as does Lauren Boebert; as long as they keep it in the privacy of their own homes and with adults, I don’t care about that either (Lauren didn’t, unfortunately). Just. Do. Your. Jobs.
We are living in the age of tell-all living. Over sharing. Look at me! Meanwhile, we have the most ineffective government in American
history. We have a congress that has done very little for decades. We have a president who continually has to be talking about how great he is while messing with people’s lives. I don’t care if Pres. Trump wears a diaper or dies his hair – what I care about is that he does his job. It doesn’t matter if I do or don’t like their personalities; what matters is that they do what’s right for all of the people. Too many politicians play favorites, supporting only those who vote for them and disrespecting everyone else. Instead of the rusty old battleship of the past, our government has become a three-ring circus, entertaining their core voters with meaningless activities instead of going after the perverts in the Epstein files or finding solutions to the Iran problem. This doesn’t mean that they are all like this; I know of a few who mind their business and work for the good of the country. They seem far and few between.
And we, the American public, are to blame. We vote these clowns into office, believing their lies and supporting their mishandling of our daily lives. I don’t care what someone’s religion is, unless they are murdering children because of it. I don’t care who they sleep with, unless they are in the Epstein files, or something similar. I don’t care if they do or don’t have children – I don’t care if they put ketchup on their hot dogs or eat pineapple on their pizza (I find both to be disgusting) – I don’t care about their quirks, their likes and dislikes. I care about them doing their jobs, and it seems like this circus and these monkeys are here to stay. Because we keep voting for them. We vote for antisemites and racists and rapists and thieves because they are the devils we know. And maybe because we are just like them. But devils only thrive in hell, not heaven. And we put them there. Which makes this amazing country worse every day. We are to blame, and only we can fix it.
Prayer – Holy God, give us the courage to care enough about ourselves, each other, You, and our country to make it better. Amen.
